When this song came out, everyone was all like "Whoa, she's Prince only prettier!" and "Wow, a chick who plays drums!" Well, watching this now, it's a lot lamer than I remembered, and one of my college roommates played drums a lot better than Ms. E. But I still like the song for some reason. Plus, it was going through my head.
Here's her other major hit, which was equally catchy:

Klymaxx was an all-female funk/R&B band whose main hits were circa 1985. These two videos are... well... an interesting display of the fashion / hairstyles at the time.
Especially apropos for today! (No, *NSYNC did not do the original song.)

So Heather's last post reminded me of the artist Terence Trent D'Arby. I first listened to Terence when I was working in a veterinary hospital during high school, shoveling lots of poo and mopping lots of floors. The head vet tech kept the radio on a station that I didn't like at all, except that Terrence was played occasionally - those were the high points of my day.
Terence's first hit was Sign Your Name Across My Heart in 1987:
Thanks for the brief moments of relief, Terence!
I do find it a little bizarre that he changed his name to Sananda Maitreya in 2001.

Cheesier than a dump truck full of havarti, it's Exposé! They were an amazingly prolific group; I couldn't believe all the songs I'd forgotten about when I browsed through YouTube looking for videos. And I like most of them (the fun uptempo dance songs more than the ballads). I've pared the selection down to a couple of favorites.
From 1984, their first single, "Point of No Return". 80's hair in all its variety: huge feathered side-part, puffy ponytail with big bangs, and a sleek yet somehow stiff and immobile shag.
From 1987, "Let Me The One".
And lastly a power ballad, "Seasons Change", from 1988.
