This was the flipside of the more famous "Bela Lugosi's Dead", which I had on glow-in-the-dark 17" vinyl, which I bought at my favorite Annapolis, MD record store, Ocean's II, which is going out of business this coming weekend. Sigh.

In honor of me putting up my cats' profiles on Catster today, I wanted to post a few cat-oriented tunes. Unfortunately, videos don't exist for Siouxsie & the Banshees' "Catwalk" (which apparently I will never own again since I sold the 12" of "Peek-a-Boo" on eBay a few years ago, sigh!) or for David Bowie's "Cat People", but at least I can include the following two videos:

This is one of the three or four records that my group of highschool friends listened to endlessly - This is Big Audio Dynamite by Big Audio Dynamite (a.k.a. BAD.) Started by Mick Jones of The Clash, I'm not sure that this group's work translates quite as well to modern times, but it was a lot of fun at the time. Here are some singles from the album:
BAD liked to put in lots of clips from various media sources. In this last video you can recognize big chunks of dialog from The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly.

After a harrowing experience this morning involving an entire colony of ants in my kitchen and a can of Raid, I decided to try to get over the crawling skin by playing music which I can positively associate with ants.
Of course, that means I'd like to hear some Adam and the Ants. This is an 80s blog, after all. Here's one of my first favorites of theirs from 1980:
Very nice and catchy. Then there's this one, which is a hell of a lot cheesier, and really not rap at all, but then, maybe in 1982 this was pretty good:
Sorry, Adam, but the football uniform doesn't suit you. The armor looks pretty nice, though. Lastly, my favorite song by this group:
Mmm, hot highwayman. Adam went solo not long after this, and had some good hits with Strip and Goody Two Shoes, but I think the earlier stuff with the Ants was better.
I saw the movie Marie Antoinette for the first time over the weekend, and while it's nowhere near historically accurate and the French have every right to be upset, I thought the movie was very good in its own right as a tale about a girl who basically had no training in anything except to look pretty and be pleasant, and how it led to her ruin.
Also, the soundtrack kicked ass. Here are a couple of tunes from the soundtrack, which I highly recommend purchasing.
This is when Robert Smith was playing guitar with the Banshees. You can see him in bits and pieces in the video.
You can definitely see that Robert got his sense in hairstyles and make-up from Siouxsie Sioux. I guess it's like a Michael Jackson / Diana Ross thing.
There are several other good Siouxsie videos which I'll save for future posts.

One of their earlier songs is This Is Not a Love Song. Gotta love the aqua sunglasses. Also, Wobble did a damn good job on bass considering he didn't know anything about it when the band started. Natural talent, indeed.
