It's been far too long since I've posted here. Since last time, I went to see Duran Duran in concert for their Red Carpet Massacre tour - and had a complete blast. I'm hoping to see the Regeneration tour (with Human League, Naked Eyes, A Flock of Seagulls, Belinda Carlysle) this month, but we'll see.
In the meantime, here's a video that I hadn't seen in a while until I tuned into some VH-1 Classic this past week:
Here's probably my favorite Squeeze song, although the video is fairly dull:

This one's especially for Heather on her birthday:
Simon looks particularly hot in this one. :)

Being a good little Duranie, I have several of the boys' birthdays memorized, including and especially Nick Rhodes'. He is 45 years old today. In his honor, I'm posting a video that breaks all of the rules we started out with (and, well, who cares - the rules were kind of hamstringing us anyways.) Nick is the one with the bright orangey-red hair. This is the video where I first fell for him - as I've said, I really like redheads.
Incidentally, most of the video-clips-within-the-video are from My Own Way, which was a pretty good but little-known video. Towards the end there are several other clips (one per individual - Save A Prayer for Simon, Night Boat [yay!] for Nick, something I can't place that might be My Own Way again for John, Hungry Like The Wolf for Andy, and Planet Earth for Roger). This video was made after all of those with the re-release of the original eponymous album. To the Shore was left off and replaced with Is There Something I Should Know? I actually really like To the Shore, so it's too bad that got removed.
Anyways, enough of my Duranie blather. Happy Birthday, Nick - and although I never sent that fan letter when I was 13, my heart still beats for you. :)

In honor of me putting up my cats' profiles on Catster today, I wanted to post a few cat-oriented tunes. Unfortunately, videos don't exist for Siouxsie & the Banshees' "Catwalk" (which apparently I will never own again since I sold the 12" of "Peek-a-Boo" on eBay a few years ago, sigh!) or for David Bowie's "Cat People", but at least I can include the following two videos:

From the "this just popped into my head" department, here's "China" by Red Rockers:

Here are a few videos revolving around the idea of space. The first is Peter Shilling's homage to David Bowie's fictional character, Major Tom:
There are so many references to Major Tom in songs that I thought he may have been an actual person, but such is not the case.
Next, there's the highly creepy song Why Me? by Planet P:
The visuals get increasingly psychedelic as the song gets more intense - very nice video.
Finally, on a more upbeat note, there's A Flock of Seagulls with Space Age Love Song:
These New Romantic hairstyles and clothing are more than a little laughable - but it seemed cool at the time. Well, maybe not Mike Score's hair - that was always a bit too much. Sorry for the momentary glitch in the video.

After a harrowing experience this morning involving an entire colony of ants in my kitchen and a can of Raid, I decided to try to get over the crawling skin by playing music which I can positively associate with ants.
Of course, that means I'd like to hear some Adam and the Ants. This is an 80s blog, after all. Here's one of my first favorites of theirs from 1980:
Very nice and catchy. Then there's this one, which is a hell of a lot cheesier, and really not rap at all, but then, maybe in 1982 this was pretty good:
Sorry, Adam, but the football uniform doesn't suit you. The armor looks pretty nice, though. Lastly, my favorite song by this group:
Mmm, hot highwayman. Adam went solo not long after this, and had some good hits with Strip and Goody Two Shoes, but I think the earlier stuff with the Ants was better.
So, since I seem to be in a ska mood today, I thought I'd post a couple of lesser-known songs from The Beat, a.k.a. English Beat. Most folks have heard Mirror in the Bathroom and Save it for Later, but these two are very catchy as well:
The Motels are another band that have a much more extensive discography than I remembered before I went digging around on YouTube.
The classic (and my favorite), "Only The Lonely", from 1982:
And, of course, "Suddenly Last Summer", 1983.
And lastly, for all those spelling bee champs: if you take the "L" out of "Lover"...it's "over". (1982):

I had to post this song, considering the remarkable resemblance between John Lydon in PIL's This is Not a Love Song and Annie Lennox in this video.
