This one's especially for Heather on her birthday:
Simon looks particularly hot in this one. :)

Here on *ahem* monthlyeighties, we aim to keep you just barely interested in maybe peeking at the blog every few years...
In any case, this song popped abruptly into my head in the shower this morning, demanding to be recognized and let out into the blogosphere.
I really covet some of those shoes.

This is one of the three or four records that my group of highschool friends listened to endlessly - This is Big Audio Dynamite by Big Audio Dynamite (a.k.a. BAD.) Started by Mick Jones of The Clash, I'm not sure that this group's work translates quite as well to modern times, but it was a lot of fun at the time. Here are some singles from the album:
BAD liked to put in lots of clips from various media sources. In this last video you can recognize big chunks of dialog from The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly.

Klymaxx was an all-female funk/R&B band whose main hits were circa 1985. These two videos are... well... an interesting display of the fashion / hairstyles at the time.
Especially apropos for today! (No, *NSYNC did not do the original song.)

Cheesier than a dump truck full of havarti, it's Exposé! They were an amazingly prolific group; I couldn't believe all the songs I'd forgotten about when I browsed through YouTube looking for videos. And I like most of them (the fun uptempo dance songs more than the ballads). I've pared the selection down to a couple of favorites.
From 1984, their first single, "Point of No Return". 80's hair in all its variety: huge feathered side-part, puffy ponytail with big bangs, and a sleek yet somehow stiff and immobile shag.
From 1987, "Let Me The One".
And lastly a power ballad, "Seasons Change", from 1988.
From The Land of One-Hit Wonders, it's Stacy Q! This is a great brainless dance tune. I clearly remember seeing her guest-starring on a particularly painful "very special episode" of "The Facts of Life" as a singer named "Cinnamon". The only Facts of Life episode more painful was the one where Natalie had sex for the first time.
